Resin tables
Resin tables and epoxy river tables
A resin table sets timber, often a live-edge slab, in clear or coloured epoxy. Coasters, trays and small side tables are fine DIY projects. A dining or river table is a maker's job, priced per piece: deep pours get hot as they cure and can crack. Our sister site epoxyresintable.ie is all about bespoke tables.
Free, no obligation. One local resin specialist prices it, not five.

What you can make yourself
| Piece | DIY or a maker | Why |
|---|---|---|
| Coasters, trays, a chopping-board edge | DIY | Thin pours: what kits are made for |
| A small side table, a flood coat on a top | DIY with care | A warm room, exact mixing |

| A dining table or a big river table | A maker | Litres of resin, a flat workshop, days of curing, finishing |
The DIY check
DIY or hire a pro?
Three taps: the project, the size and how much epoxy you've used. You get an honest verdict, the reasons and what a specialist charges.
Borderline
Possible yourself, with care
- Small pieces (coasters, trays, a side table) are what DIY kits are made for.
- Deep pours get hot as they cure and can crack: they need a deep-pour resin, in the layers it allows.
- A dining table takes a lot of resin, a flat, level workshop and days of curing.
- Skin contact is the main risk: epoxy can cause allergic dermatitis. Nitrile gloves, long sleeves, eye protection and fresh air, every time.
Bespoke tables are priced per piece by the maker. See epoxyresintable.ie.
Send this for a real priceHow this is worked out
Anything you walk on, cook on or shower against, at any real size, is a specialist job: the preparation, the cure and the waterproofing decide whether it lasts. Small pieces are what DIY kits are made for. Experience moves a borderline job, never a shower wall or a commercial floor. Prices are our price guide; your written price comes from the specialist.
Deep pours
Why big tables crack
Epoxy gives off heat as it cures, and the more there is in one place, the hotter it gets. In a deep river, a resin not made for it can crack, cloud, yellow or pull away from the timber. Deep-pour resins are poured in the depth the maker allows, sometimes in layers, over days.
Care
Living with a resin table
- Hot plates and mugs on mats: most table-top epoxies soften at 38 to 54°C.
- Out of direct sun: it yellows.
- A damp cloth and mild soap; no solvents.

FAQ
Questions people ask
How much is an epoxy resin table?
Bespoke tables are priced per piece by the maker: the size, the timber and the depth of resin decide it. See epoxyresintable.ie.
Can I make a river table myself?
A small one, with a deep-pour resin and a warm, level workshop. A dining table is a maker's job.
Do resin tables scratch?
Yes. The top can be sanded and refinished, which is one reason to buy from a maker who'll do it.
