Resin flooring
Resin flooring in Ireland
An epoxy resin floor costs €30 to €130 a m² fitted: €30 to €50 a m² for a plain coating, €60 to €100 a m² for flake and metallic finishes. A 20 m² floor comes to €600 to €2,000. Most of the work, and most of the risk, is in preparing the concrete underneath.
Free, no obligation. One local resin specialist prices it, not five.
The systems
From a seal to a self-levelling floor
| Type | System | Thickness | Where it goes |
|---|---|---|---|
| 1 | Floor seal | About 150 microns | Dust-proofing, light traffic |
| 2 | Floor coating | 150 to 300 microns | Garages, stores, light commercial |
| 3 | High build coating | 300 microns to 1 mm | Workshops, busier floors |
| 5 | Flow applied (self-levelling) | 2 to 3 mm | Kitchens, shops, showrooms, decorative floors |
| 6 to 8 | Resin screeds and heavy duty floors | 4 mm and more | Factories, commercial kitchens, heavy wear |
Those are the resin flooring industry's standard types. The thicker the system, the more it takes and the more it costs. In a house, a coating or a 2 to 3 mm self-levelling floor is usual.

Hire a pro
One for a specialist
- The preparation is the job: the concrete is ground or shot blasted, not just cleaned.
- A new slab needs at least 28 days; damp coming up through an old one lifts the coating.
- A floor coating is 150 to 300 microns thick. It shows every dip and crack under it.
A resin floor, fitted: €30 to €130 a m². A 20 m² floor: €600 to €2,000.
Send this for a real priceHow this is worked out
Anything you walk on, cook on or shower against, at any real size, is a specialist job: the preparation, the cure and the waterproofing decide whether it lasts. Small pieces are what DIY kits are made for. Experience moves a borderline job, never a shower wall or a commercial floor. Prices are our price guide; your written price comes from the specialist.
The prep
Why the preparation is the job
- The concrete is ground or shot blasted, not swept, so the resin grips.
- A new slab cures for at least 28 days first, longer in cold, damp weather. Coated too early, it bubbles and peels.
- Damp is tested with a probe. Moisture coming up through an old slab with no membrane lifts the floor.
- Cracks and holes are filled, and the floor primed, before the system goes on.

FAQ
Questions people ask
How much is resin flooring a m²?
€30 to €130 a m² fitted: €30 to €50 a m² for a plain coating, €60 to €100 a m² for flake or metallic, €50 to €100 a m² for industrial systems.
Is resin flooring the same as epoxy flooring?
Most resin floors are epoxy. Polyurethane and other resins are used too, for flexibility, UV or hot water.
Can resin go on a new concrete floor?
After at least 28 days, longer in cold, damp weather, and after a damp test.
Is a resin floor slippery?
A smooth gloss floor can be when wet. Grit added to the topcoat makes it slip resistant; ask for it in kitchens, utility rooms and garages.
